Plays on local theaters: Nov. 17, 2011

ASHLAND CONTEMPORARY THEATRE: "It's Only a Play," a comedy by playwright Terrence McNally, will show at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 17-19, Monday, Nov. 21, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 25-27, Monday, Nov. 28, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, and Monday, Dec. 5, at the Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road, Ashland. Matinees will be available at 2 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4. "It's Only a Play" is a send-up of show business. It's all prayers for the cast and creators of a new Broadway show as they wait for critics' reviews, then pandemonium sets in. Tickets cost $15, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. A pay-what-you-can performance will be offered Monday, Nov. 21. ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL: "The 39 Steps," a Tony Award-winning spoof of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 motion picture, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-19, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in the high school's Mountain Avenue Theatre, 201 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland. An ensemble of students play more than 50 characters in this comic thriller that is part spy novel, part Monty Python-style comedy. Oregon Shakespeare Festival actor Tyrone Wilson directs. Reserved seating costs $15, general seating costs $10 and seating for full-time students (18 and younger) and seniors (65 and older) costs $5. CAMELOT THEATRE COMPANY: In the James Morrison Collier Theatre Building, 101 Talent Ave., Talent. The box office is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and one hour before performances. SPOTLIGHT ON THE BLUE DIVAS: Camelot Theatre showcases the singers who sang the blues in the Roaring '20s, an era when jazz and blues flourished in America and singers such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and others stepped into the recording studios. The show features Gayle Wilson, who wrote the script, and Jade Chavis Watt. Musical arrangements are by Michael Vannice. Performances are set for 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 20. Tickets cost $20.

highlights from the carol Burnett show: A revue of side-splitting skits from "Carol Burnett and Friends" will be presented at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 4, except Nov. 25-27. Look for such classics as "Pigeon Lady," "As the Stomach Turns" and "Guess What's Coming to Dinner." Rob Pendell directs a cast of local actors. Tickets cost $15, $12 for seniors and children.

Rogue Community College: Auditions are set for RCC's production of "Working," Studs Terkel's Tony-nominated musical with songs by James Taylor and Stephen Schwartz., from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, and from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in RCC's new performance space at 101 S.
