PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE Taiko drummer Kelvin Underwood will lead Southern Oregon University's percussion ensemble, under the direction of Terry Longshore, in a performance of Japanese composer Maki Ishii's "Monochrome" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Also featured will be Mark Applebaum's "Catfish" played by percussive quartet Compás and "Wart Hog No. 3" and "Full Cycle" played by the Reso-Nation Percussion Quartet. Tickets cost $5, free for students, and are available at the music hall's box office or by calling 541-552-6101.


Local musicians will perform while artisans display goods at this three-day holiday bazaar at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25. Aaron Reed will perform, followed by The New Come Rain or Come Shine, Dave Scoggin and the Smoky Red Duo. Saturday's festivities continue at 10 a.m. with music by Martin Vee, Rod Petrone, Cantrell Maryott, Jaese Lacuyer, and Jacquelene Ambrose. Sunday's music lineup features Heather Hutton, Martin Ball and Tim Church. Admission is free.


The five-piece group combines rock, reggae and dance music for a show at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St. The band features Kekaiolohia Enomoto on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Stephan Kane on electric guitar, Chris Matthews on keys, George Arnall on bass and Reed Bentley on drums. Cover is $5.


"It's Only a Play," a comedy by playwright Terrence McNally, will show at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Nov. 25-27, Monday, Nov. 28, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, and Monday, Dec. 5, at the Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road. A matinee is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. "It's Only a Play" is a send-up of show business. It's all prayers for the cast and creators of a new Broadway show as they wait for critics' reviews, then pandemonium sets in. Tickets cost $15, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. Jazz vocalist Leslie Kendall will join guitarist Ed Dunsavage, bassist Joe Cohoon and drummer Chicken Hirsh from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Paschal Winery, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent. The music will include a mix of jazz classics by such composers as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jimmy Van Heusan and others. Cover for the show costs $10.


Guitarist Grant Ruiz will perform authentic sounds of Spanish flamenco at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at The Winchester Inn wine bar, 35 S. Second St., Ashland. Ruiz draws inspiration for his music from his travels to southern Spain, the home of flamenco. He is a member of the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society and Duo Flamenco, with percussionist Terry Longshore. There is no cover.
