Wind Ensemble

The Southern Oregon University Wind Ensemble, directed by Cynthia Hutton, will perform "Twas the Night Before Christmas," with narration by theater arts student Sarah Wright, along with traditional carols, Russian Christmas music and selections from "The Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Music Recital hall on the SOU campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The concert also will feature SOU's Brass Consort and Siskiyou Saxophone Orchestra. Tickets cost $10, $5 for seniors, and can be purchased at the box office inside the music hall, online at sou.edu/performing arts or by calling 541-552-6348. Full-time students get in free.

Foxfire Trio

Jaxon Williams

Concert and Chamber Choirs

Southern Oregon University's concert and chamber choirs, directed by Paul French, will present “A Rose in Winter,” a mix of new and traditional carols, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the SOU Music Recital Hall, off South Mountain Avenue in Ashland. The program will include the German chorale “Lo How a Rose” in settings by composers Michael Praetorius and Jan Sandstöm; “Ave Eva” by Ivan Hrušovský; two lyrical settings of “There is No Rose” by Robert Young and Paul Hillier; two settings of “O Magnum Mysterium,” by David Childs and Ivo Antognini; Christmas motets by Hans Leo Hassler; and traditional carols and spirituals from around the world. Tickets cost $10, $5 for seniors, and can be purchased online at sou.edu/performingarts, at the box office in the music hall or by calling 541-552-6348. Full-time students get in free.

Musicians Swap Meet

Ashland Ice Rink

The Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink is open for the season, weather permitting, at 95 Winburn Way, across from Lithia Park. Skate rentals are $2.50. Admission to the rink is free for children ages five and under, $3.50 for youths ages 6-14 and $4 for adults.
