'A Dream of Red Pavilions' at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival
A staged reading of playwright Jeremy Tiang’s adaptation of the Chinese novel will be presented at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, in the Thomas Theatre on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival campus, 15 S. Pioneer St., Ashland. A love story set during the Qing Dynasty’s rule in 18th-century China, the drama follows an aristocratic family’s decline. When spirit-being Jia Baoyu is reborn as a mortal, he finds himself torn between sensual pleasures and familial duty. The family is living in unimaginable luxury despite its heavy debts, out of touch with the real world. The cast features Jomar Tagatac, Leah Anderson, Erica Sullivan, Paul Juhn, Cristofer Jean, Terri McMahon, Nancy Rodriguez, Sara Bruner, K.T. Vogt, Regan Linton, Allison Buck and Moira Todd. Mei Ann Teo, a Phil Killian Directing Fellow, directs. Tickets cost $12, $8 for age 6 through 17, and can be purchased online at osfashland.org or by calling 541-482-4331.
