First (second) Friday in Ashland

"Glimpses of Iceland," black-and-white images by photographer Darcie Sternenberg, presents a landscape stripped of its vibrant blues and greens at The Photographer's Gallery in the Ashland Art Center. The dramatic mountains, waterfalls and black sand beaches become quiet and more contemplative in Sternenberg's work.

Jessica Lee uses repurposed and ecological materials to deliver deep color and texture to her layered assemblages to be displayed at Ashland Art Center. Lee finds inspiration in the nature of petals, branches, feathers, botanicals and the sea.

"Exploring Reality," an exhibit curated by artist, art writer and critic Shane McAdams and museum director Scott Malbaurn, will open Thursday, Jan. 14, in the Schneider Museum of Art on the Southern Oregon University campus. The show features nine artists exploring perceptions of reality in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, installation and sculpture. Along with McAdams, who hails from Wisconsin and New York City, eight Oregon artists will be represented. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 14.

Discover these exhibits and more during the Ashland Gallery Association's monthly art walk taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, in downtown Ashland and the Historic Railroad District.
