Colonel Mustard Band

Pianist Joseph Yungen will perform music by Alkan, Faure and Chopin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University, Ashland. Yungen received First Prize in the 88th Annual Bruce P. Carlson Schubert Club Piano Competition, the Ann Fehn Pianist’s First Prize in the 14th Annual Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition, and the Barr Award for Excellence in Accompanying. He attended the Music Academy of the West as a Collaborative Piano Fellow in 2012. He is a graduate of Crater High School and Southern Oregon University. Country singer, songwriter and recording artist Amy Corey performs at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Oberon’s Tavern, 45 N. Main St., Ashland. Corey is a 2015 graduate of Ashland High School. Now based in Nashville, she is signed to an Artist Development deal with Grammy-Nominated producer Kent Wells, who is know for his work with Dolly Parton. Corey and Parton performed together at the 11th Annual Alumni concert honoring Kent Wells.
Sacred Walk to 2019
The annual Sacred Walk to the New Year will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the First United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall, 175 N. Main St., Ashland. This year’s theme is “May Loving Kindness Prevail.” The nondenominational, interfaith walk is on an intricate maze printed on a large-scale portable canvas, owned by life coach Elizabeth Austin. Ceremonies will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 31, and 3 p.m. Jan. 1. Various musicians will add to the walk’s ambiance. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Bathtub Gin Serenaders, Band du Pays Swing, the Allen Giardinelli Band and Circus Luminescense ring in the New Year at a ’20s style ball at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at the old Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Look for poker, roulette and blackjack with funny money and prizes. There will be a countdown to a ball drop and champagne toast at midnight. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at door, and are available at liveatthearmory.com, Music Coop and Immortal Spirits.
