An Evening with a Holocaust Survivor
The Chabad Jewish Center of Southern Oregon will host Marthe Cohn, a 98-year-old Holocaust survivor and World War II spy, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Music Recital Hall at Southern Oregon University, 450 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Following her family’s daring escape from Nazi-occupied France and her sister’s death in Auschwitz, Cohn was recruited by the Intelligence Service of the French First Army because of her blond hair, blue eyes and thorough command of the German language. Posing as a German nurse searching for her fictional fiancé on the front lines, she successfully retrieved crucial information regarding the positioning of German troops. Tickets are $15, $20 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at chabadofashland.org/HolocaustSpeaker. Cohn will have copies of her book “Behind Enemy Lines” on sale and will be available for a book signing after the event.
