Rogue Valley livestreams, Zoom clubs & more: Dec. 18

Gold Hill Book Club

The Gold Hill Library Book Club for adults 18 and older will meet at 3 p.m. the third Friday of each month, via Zoom. On Friday, Dec. 18, the book to be discussed will be “Red at the Bone” by Jacqueline Woodson. Books are available for pickup one month before the meeting date. Teen Random Fandom

Teens are invited to meet to take a deep dive into a variety of pop culture topics at 12:30 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, via Zoom. On Saturday, Dec. 19, the focus will be a celebration of books by the American author, James Riley. Gypsy Soul

Folk, soul and roots duo Cilette Swann and Roman Morykit will perform special holiday livestream concerts, “Front Row with Gypsy Soul,” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, and at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24. A pre-show will start at 5:45 p.m. with recordings and slideshow. The duo will perform a mix of originals, covers and holiday favorites. A 10-minute Q-and-A time will be given at “intermission.” See gypsysoul.com, and click on the link which will take you to the online platform Twitch. One there you will find a “virtual tip jar,” where you can use PayPal or a credit card to start the show. The show is a “pay-what-you-want” basis. You do not have to sign up for anything unless you would like to be sent a reminder for the concert or you’d like to be part of the chat/comments during the concert. A portion of the proceeds will be given for COVID-19 and Almeda fire relief.

Brain Books Discussion Group

The adult reading group will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month via Zoom. On Tuesday, Dec. 22, the book to be discussed will be “New Power: How Power Works in Our Hyperconnected World — and How to Make it Work for You” by Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms. Three text-based virtual tours of Jacksonville’s historic past, “Walk through Jacksonville History,” “Beekman Bank Nuggets,” and “Mrs. Beekman Invites You to Call,” can be viewed at historicjacksonville.org. The Rogue Valley Symphony new series, “Digital Journeys: Concert Detours,” featuring three online performances are available free to the general public on the symphony’s YouTube channel. Search YouTube for “Rogue Valley Symphony” to see posted concerts.

Teen Trivia

Teens can join in a live game of general knowledge trivia using Zoom and the Kahoot platform at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22. Log into the Zoom meeting to see the questions and respond on the Kahoot app or website. You don’t need an account to play, just the app and the game PIN, which we will be provided during the Zoom meeting. Mighty Medford Improvers

The local comedy improvisational group will host a free improvisational comedy practice from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays (Dec. 24), via Zoom. All levels of experience are welcome. Queer Coffee House

The social group for LGBTQ+ communities and their allies meets from 10 a.m. to noon the first Saturday (Jan. 2) of each month via Zoom. Windows in Time — Local History Lecture

As part of the “Windows in Time” lecture series, photographer Richard Bergeman will present “The Land Remembers: Landscapes of the Rogue Indian Wars” at noon Wednesday, Jan. 6, via Zoom. The Southern Oregon landscape has seen many changes in the century and a half since the Rogue River Wars raged through the region. Despite being one of the longest and bloodiest of all the Indian wars in the West, it remains largely forgotten today. Bergeman revisits the landscape where the conflict tore through the fabric of both indigenous and settler communities over 150 years ago. Teen Musical Theater of Oregon — "A Christmas Together": The Teen Musical Theater of Oregon had to cancel its in-person holiday performances of “A Christmas Together — A TMTO Holiday Concert.” However, TMTO is now offering the program virtually through a series of 12 short music videos counting down the days to Christmas, via Facebook. The videos feature past and present cast members of the TMTO company, presenting fresh treatments of familiar favorites to new-to-you tunes, every song tells the story of what it means to be together during the most wonderful time of the year.
