Rogue Valley art galleries: Oct. 8

In Focus:Jacksonville Second Saturday Art Walk

Join the Jacksonville Second Saturday Art Walk, where galleries, restaurants and studios will show new exhibits, host art demonstrations and more from 3 to 6 p.m. the second Saturday of every month through October. This month’s event is Saturday, Sept. 11. Look for the yellow pennant at participating locations. For more information, call 541-941-7057.

American Trails: The gallery, located in the Columbia Hotel, 250 E. Main St., Ashland, features art and crafts of the indigenous peoples in North and South America. The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Masks are required, and hand sanitation will be offered at the door. See americantrails.com or call 541-482-2553.

Art du Jour Gallery: See exhibits by 17 local artists in myriad mediums such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pen & ink, Conté crayon, collage, sculpture, photography, mixed media and more. See colorful paintings by Gallery Featured Artist Max Brown, Oct. 1-31. The Salon Featured Artist, Andre Satie, will have landscape paintings on exhibit Oct. 1-Nov. 30. The gallery, located at 213 E. Main St., Medford, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Private viewings are available outside open business hours by reservation. Limit of 10 people in the gallery at a time.

Art & Soul Gallery: During the month of October, see pastel paintings by Carla J. Griffin in the exhibit “Through the Window.” The gallery, which features art in a variety of mediums by regional artists and is located at 247 E. Main St., Ashland, will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and by appointment. Limit of 25 visitors in the gallery at a time. Art Presence Art Center: The gallery will hold its eighth annual Halloween exhibit, “Imaginarium: Reality or Illusion,” through October 31. The show features artworks from local artists, including paintings, 3-D assemblages, sculpture, textile art, ceramics and more. A virtual tour of the exhibit is available at the gallery’s website, art-presence.org. Also on display, wooden bowls, crafted from fallen trees at the Jacksonville Cemetery, by Chris Anderson. The bowls will be silent auctioned at Belita Space, 135 S. Third St., Jacksonville, beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, during the Second Saturday Art Walk. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the historic Jacksonville cemetery. The gallery is located at 206 N. Ashland Art Works: The gallery features work of local artists in a variety of mediums, including ceramics, woodwork, fiber arts and garden art. Throughout the month of October see textile work by Claudia Law and woodwork by John Weston. The art collective, at 291 Oak St., Ashland, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays. Fiber Arts Collective: See the work of approximately 30 fiber artisans at 37 N. Third St., Ashland. Exhibits include sewing, dyeing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and felting to binding, collaging, painting, printing, stenciling, beading and creating assemblage pieces. Gallerie Karon: The gallery, located at 300 E. Main St., Ashland, features vintage textiles and jewelry, antiques, art and furnishings. The October exhibition, “Faces Hidden and Revealed,” features masks and puppets from around the world. Ranging from two inches to four feet, face, helmet, and shoulder masks are included. Grants Pass Museum of Art: The museum, located upstairs, at 229 S.W. G St., Grants Pass, features work by local and regional artists. See the annual “Membership Exhibition,” featuring 148 artworks created by 92 artists in a variety of media and themes through Oct. 15. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and by appointment. Admission to the museum is free. Hanson Howard Gallery: The gallery, located at 89 Oak St., Ashland, features works in an array of mediums including painting, sculpture, ceramics and fine art prints. Houston’s Custom Framing and Fine Art: The gallery, located at 280 E. Hersey St #11, Ashland, will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment. Oct. 1–Nov. 12. The Members’ Gallery will feature all new work in a variety of mediums by local artists in the through Dec. 22. The gallery at 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Schneider Museum of Art: Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art has reopened for in-person viewing. See the new exhibit “A Shrine for a Shrine,” featuring art by Bruce Burris. Burris has also curated a group exhibition on view in the Treehaven Gallery, “We Take the Long Way,” an exhibition focused on neurodiverse artists. Both exhibitions will be on view Oct. 5-Dec. 9. Studio 151: The art studio, located at 151 N. Pioneer St., Ashland, features mixed-media sculptural artwork by Elizabeth York. See a series of work investigating time, wall relief Buddhas and a variety of sculptural animals and birds. The studio is open by appointment only.
