In Focus: Teen Trivia

Teens can join in a live game of general knowledge trivia using Zoom and the Kahoot platform at 4:30 p.m. the last Monday (Dec. 27) of every month. Log into the Zoom meeting to see the questions and respond on the Kahoot app or website. You don’t need an account to play, just the app and the game PIN, which we will be provided during the Zoom meeting. This quiz will contain 70 questions on a variety of subjects. Southern Oregon Climate Action Now

SOCAN will offer its Master Climate Protector course again this year. The seventh offering of this annual course will begin Feb. 9, 2022, and run for 10 weeks with three-hour sessions via Zoom. Learn about the basic science of global warming including competing explanations, energy use and construction, water use and extreme weather, transportation, agriculture and natural systems, how human health, population growth and consumption play a role, and more. Native plants garden tour

Take a virtual tour through 11 gardens to explore trees, shrubs, perennials and wildflowers that are native to our area at jacksoncountymga.org/native-plants-garden-tour. Included are an eco-restoration garden, a permaculture mini-farm, a small urban garden and more. Admission is free; donations to the Jackson County Master Gardeners Association will be accepted. Historic Jacksonville virtual tour

Three text-based virtual tours of Jacksonville’s historic past, “Walk Through Jacksonville History,” “Beekman Bank Nuggets,” and “Mrs. Beekman Invites You to Call,” can be viewed at historicjacksonville.org. Brain Books Discussion Group

The adult reading group will meet from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month via Zoom. On Tuesday, Dec. 28, the book to be discussed will be “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson. Running and Reading Club

Kids ages 13 and older who are interested in reading and running are invited to run and to read (or listen to an audio-book while running) each week then gather virtually at 4:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month via Zoom to discuss how the running is going and what everyone is reading. Books at Noon

Queer Coffee House

The social group for LGBTQ+ communities and their allies meets from 10 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of each month, except January (which will be held on Jan. 15) via Zoom. Bring a list of your recent favorite books, movies, and/or podcasts, and share what projects or crafts you’re working on.
