Ashland World Music Festival: The Ashland World Music Festival invites the public to live, in-person storytelling, music, dance and visual art offerings from cultures around the world, Friday through Monday, May 27-30. The festival features culture-bearing performers, visual artists, and teachers at live events and a weekend of SoundWalks through Ashland’s downtown city-scape. All AWMF events are free, donations accepted. All proceeds this year will be donated to Coalición Fortaleza, a local organization dedicated to restoring Latinx neighborhoods in the Rogue Valley that were disproportionately impacted by the Almeda Fire. Historic Bank Tour: Step behind the counter of the oldest bank in the Pacific Northwest — Beekman Bank — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Sept. 4, at the Beekman Bank Museum, 110 W. California St, Jacksonville. A costumed docent will tell the stories of 19th Century banking practices, gold shipping, and handshake deals. Begun in 1856 as a gold dust office, it’s the oldest financial institution between San Francisco and Portland. ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum: A variety of interactive science exhibits are available at the museum, located at 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. The interactive museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. Many exhibits will be modified to reduce touch surfaces — fewer hands-on activities — and increase physical distancing. ‘Windows in Time’ local history lecture: As part of the free “Windows in Time” lecture series, local historian Ben Truwe, will present “Seamy Side of Medford: 1884-1935” at noon Wednesday, June 1, at the Medford library, 205 S. Butte Creek Mill Anniversary: Celebrate the Butte Creek Mill’s 150th anniversary at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Eagle Point library, 239 W. Main St. Learn about the Butte Creek Mill, a Living Treasure that stood rustically over Little Butte Creek, water pouring out of her antique timbered side as it had for far over a century. Her belts, pulleys, and stones had not stopped turning and telling the story of the people who settled the Oregon territory until Christmas morning 2015. The Mill is an iconic structure that was built in 1872 in Eagle Point. It was on the National Register of Historic Places as the last water-powered grist mill, still commercially operating, west of the Mississippi. It was not only a place to buy goods, but was also a hub for the community, as it hosted events and offered educational resources to people who came from all over the world to experience this piece of history. It is not only a story of history, but of the destiny of those who would preserve the treasure from extinction and share it with future generations.
