City of Medford appoints new fire chief

Longtime Medford firefighter Brian Fish has been appointed chief of Medford Fire-Rescue, the city announced today.

Fish has worked for Medford's fire department since January 1989, according to a city press release.

He will be promoted to fire chief on Monday, the release said.

City Manager Eric Swanson appointed Fish and announced the decision today.

"The Medford fire department as a whole is extremely excited to have Fish appointed as fire chief," said Rick Rohrbough, MFR battalion chief.  "Every person is behind him ... it was a home run for us."

Fish has worked at MFR in the positions of firefighter, company officer, battalion chief in training, battalion chief and, most recently, deputy chief of operations, the release said.

Swanson and Fish did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment.
