Farmers market boosts incentives for Oregon Trail shoppers
This month the Saturday Rogue Valley Growers & Crafters Market on The Commons in Medford will increase an incentive for shoppers using Oregon Trail cards.
The Fresh Rewards program usually matches the first $4 Oregon Trail benefit users spend on fresh, local food at the market. As part of Hunger Action Month in September, the incentive will rise to $6.
Market organizers said the boost in incentives is made possible with donations from Providence Medford Medical Center, Ashland Food Co-op and Soroptimist International of Medford. Individuals can donate to the program, too, at
www.accesshelps.org. Click the "Make a difference" button on the right side of the page, then select a donation amount and payment information and designate the donation to go to the Fresh Rewards program, organizers said.
Hannah Ancel of ACCESS Inc., who helped develop the Fresh Rewards program said in a statement that the extra dollars help people get more of the bounty of fresh food available at the market during the harvest season and help support local farmers and ranchers.
The Saturday Medford market is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 25 on The Commons at Sixth and Bartlett streets.
