Umpqua Hot Springs cleanup
Saturday, Sept. 27: Volunteers are needed for a National Public Lands Day cleanup at the Umpqua Hot Springs trailhead to replace a signboard, pick up litter, and remove brush and invasive weeds. The site is the portal to the popular hot springs, where heavy use has created damage to the site, including graffiti, unsightly camping sites and litter. Work will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting in the parking lot for the springs. A shuttle will leave from the North Umpqua Ranger Station in Glide at 7:45 a.m. Work gloves, garbage bags, rakes, pruners and saws will be provided. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Bring a lunch to eat with the group or on your own after the work party while you explore the surrounding area. Volunteers are encouraged to register ahead by calling Janie Pardo at 541-496-4178.
