Block party raises money for Central Point learning center

A Central Point nonprofit that strives to teach people about nature through recreational activities plans a fundraising block party from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at 216 E. Pine St., Central Point.

The Direct Involvement Recreation Teaching, also known as DIRT, developed a garden and learning center at a parking lot behind Ma's Restaurant at that location. Their recent summer programs tackled gardening, composting, soil web building, pollinators and rainwater-catching systems.

The block party will raise money for DIRT to develop indoor programs focused on art through the winter. The party will include carnival games, prizes, a barbecue, a silent auction and photo opportunities with Jackson County Fire District No. 3.
