City pulls plug on Plaza wi-fi
Free wireless Internet service on the Plaza in Ashland has been cut off in order to restore service to City Hall, the city of Ashland announced Monday.
City Hall lost its connection to the city database and the Internet on Friday, Oct. 3. Service was restored by using the fiber connection that had provided free wireless service to the Plaza since April 2013. People on the Plaza and nearby areas could log on to AFN Plaza 1 and AFN Plaza 2 without a password.
City crews hope to place a wireless or optical connection on the roof of the Community Development Building on Winburn Way and eventually install new fiber from the data center to City Hall, the city said in a media release. Once new fiber is installed, wireless service on the Plaza will be restored.
