Antarctica Presentations: Using imagery and videos, Dave Baker will bring Antarctica to life during talks about the continent from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28,  and Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, and Monday, Nov. 17, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave. Baker was a member of the Navy's Operation Deep Freeze, an expedition that built American bases in Antarctica to support the International Geophysical Year of 1957-58. He returned to the Antarctic on the MS National Geographic Endeavor in 2006 and 2010. Learn about great ice sheets that cover the continent to depths of more than 10,000 feet, icebergs, sea ice and penguin rookeries at the Oct. 28 Ashland talk and the Nov. 10 Medford talk. Library Halloween Fun: Enjoy Halloween fun from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave. Kids and adults are invited to show off their costumes. Masks and facial feature-obscuring make-up are not allowed in the library. Youngsters can trick-or-treat at all the customer service desks. Library staff will display carved pumpkins throughout the library. Spookadelic Halloween Funktacular: On Friday, Oct. 31, the annual Halloween bash at the Historic Ashland Armory will feature live dance music by Afrolicious and uPhonic SoundSystem, along with music by DJ El Papachango. Revelers can party in an environment filled with props, art installations and visual effects accenting the Halloween theme. Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Armory, 208 Oak St. Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased at www.liveatthearmory.com or Music Coop. Tickets will cost $30 at the door. The event is open to ages 21 and older only.
