Antarctica explorer discusses his adventures
A former explorer of the Antarctic region will talk about his work from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Howiee's on Front, 16 N. Front St., Medford, as part of an event sponsored by ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum.
Retired Navy Capt. Dave Baker, a volunteer member of the team to build the first American bases in Antarctica in the 1950s, will share pictures and narrate his experiences. He served as the survival training and para-rescue officer and dog sled driver at McMurdo Base during Operation DeepFreeze. He returned to Antarctica in 2004 aboard the MS National Geographic Endeavor.
