Alleged drunken driver ejected in crash near Rogue River

SAVAGE CREEK — An allegedly drunken driver was ejected from a car during a crash near Rogue River early Tuesday morning.

The single-car crash was reported at 12:13 a.m. in the area of Rogue River Highway and Savage Creek Road, near the Josephine/Jackson county line. There were two people inside the car, a man and a woman, and the man was thrown from the vehicle, a black Honda Accord, according to Oregon State Police.

The man, Luke Henry Pierce, 24, of Rogue River, was knocked unconscious and was taken by ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, where doctors found that he had suffered major injuries but would "pull through," police said.

The woman, identified by police as Darcie Ann Estes, 24, of Grants Pass, told investigators that they were driving back from J.D.'s Sports Pub in Grants Pass when the crash occurred, and that Pierce was behind the wheel, a news release from OSP said.

Blood was drawn from Pierce at the hospital, and he was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit for driving in Oregon, OSP said. He was cited for driving while under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
