Mount Ashland gets more snow, but rain on the way
The Mt. Ashland Ski Area saw its snow total approach normal totals Saturday, with nearly 3 feet of the white stuff on its upper slopes and 2 feet at the lodge. The area opened Friday, with its beginner and intermediate lifts, Sonnet and Comer, running.
The good news may not last long, however, as the area plans to be closed today in anticipation of a storm that promises to be wet — as in rain wet. The National Weather Service is calling for rain at the area's base elevation, with as much as an inch predicted for both Saturday night and again today. That could wash away much of the accumulation of snow. For updates, see www.mtashland.com or call the snow phone at 541-482-2754.
The valley floor is also in for rain over the next several days, according to the Weather Service. But the storm is expected to break near week's end to make Christmas traveling a bit easier.
