Free guided hikes offered New Year's Day at TouVelle, Valley of the Rogue state parks
Free, guided First Day Hikes are planned at TouVelle and Valley of the Rogue state parks on New Year's Day, courtesy of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
For the fourth year, Oregon parks have partnered with America's State Parks to offer guided hikes in state parks across Oregon on New Year's Day. The usual $5 day-use parking fee will be waived on Jan. 1.
At TouVelle State Park, an easy, all-ages, 1.5-mile hike along the TouVelle Rivers Edge Trail will be from 11 a.m. to noon starting at Picnic Area A. Participants will learn about the Rogue Valley in the 1850s during the hike. Pets on leashes are welcome.
The hike at Valley of the Rogue State Park will be from 11 a.m. to noon starting at the Program Area. Park ranger Travis Tastove will lead the hike, which will focus on local flora and fauna.
Participants should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and bring water as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing. In case of inclement weather, call the park to find out about any cancellation.
