Author Talk: Former Ashland City Councilor Alice Hardesty will discuss her book "An Uncommon Cancer Journey: The Cosmic Kick That Healed Our Lives" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Bloomsbury Books, 290 E. Main St., Ashland. The book tells the story of her husband Jack Hardesty's healing from esophageal cancer in the 1980s after two terminal diagnoses. Alice Hardesty accompanied him on his journey as he tried alternative and complementary treatments. Along with physical healing came the healing of their marriage. William Florian: The singer, songwriter and former lead vocalist of the New Christy Minstrels will celebrate the folk movement of the '60s with "Those Were the Days," a program of popular folk music, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the auditorium at North Medford High School, 1900 N. Keene Way Drive. Along with the high points of folk, Florian's shows include humorous firsthand accounts of his experiences with such notable artists as John Denver. The success of his continuous tours is a testament to the passion for folk. The concert is part of Jackson County Community Concert Associations' 2014-15 season.
