SNYP to offer spay/neuter discounts during February
Pet owners can get discount certificates for spaying and neutering cats and dogs during the month of February as part of the World Spay Day campaign.
SNYP, a Jackson County spay/neuter referral and assistance program, offers the certificates good for surgical sterilization for $25 for a cat and $75 for a dog up to 60 pounds. An additional $10 fee is due at the time of surgery for dogs that weigh more than 60 pounds. The certificates can be purchased at Pet Country, Rogue Valley Pet in the Winco shopping center, the Mini Pet Mart on Stewart Avenue, and the Grange Co-op stores in south Medford, Central Point, White City and Ashland. Each certificate includes a list of participating local veterinary clinics.
"Our biggest challenge is the cat overpopulation issue in Jackson County," SNYP board president Sally Mackler said in a release, adding cats can start breeding at four months of age and can birth as many as three litters a year.
The U.S. Humane Society started World Spay Day 20 years ago as an event that only lasted a single day, Feb. 24. It eventually expanded to the whole month. Organizers say conservative estimates point to nearly 2 million animals spayed and neutered through the program.
