All roads open after weekend work at Fern Valley
North Phoenix Road has reopened after a full weekend of construction to connect two new road alignments, the Oregon Department of Transportation reported this morning.
Both the temporary northbound Interstate 5 exit 24 on-ramp and a new route called Grove Road connecting Fern Valley and North Phoenix roads are open to traffic. They opened Sunday evening, slightly ahead of schedule, ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming said.
All business access remained open over the weekend. Under the traffic change, Grove Road is the new access to Home Depot and the La-Z-Boy store.
Drivers should be alert to the traffic change. Intermittent construction will continue on the newly opened roadways as some final paving and striping still have to be finished.
The new routes completed over the weekend enable crews to begin work on the eastside approach to the new Fern Valley bridge over I-5.
Hamilton Construction of Springfield is the prime contractor on the project. Work on the project, which includes a diverging diamond configuration, is expected to be complete by September 2016.
