Climber dies in fall on Mount Shasta
A California man died Thursday in a fall while climbing Mount Shasta, the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
According to a sheriff's office press release, 57-year-old Michael Murphy of San Carlos, Calif., came to rest at 10,500 feet elevation. An initial call said Murphy fell 400 feet, but a witness later said Murphy descended 2,000 feet in the fall.
A medic was on scene and a California Highway Patrol helicopter was called, but Murphy died before he could be airlifted to a hospital, according to the sheriff's office.
