Weather Service issues lightning, heat warnings for Southern Oregon
A red alert for lightning remains in effect for a vast swath of the Northwest, including Southern Oregon and Northern California, as temperatures and fire danger continue to hit high levels.
The weather service says Medford is expected to hit 107 degrees today after reaching a low of only 74 degrees overnight. Highs in the region could reach 110 degrees.
A heat advisory is expected to remain in effect until Sunday, when the high is expected to drop to 100 degrees. That modest respite will disappear by midweek, forecasters say, with a high of 106 predicted for Wednesday.
The red flag alert is set through 11 a.m. Sunday, with the greatest chance of thunderstorms and lightning occurring late this afternoon through midday Sunday.
