Five picks for the week
Friday Evening Market
Artisans and growers converge from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays through September at the corner of Main and John streets in Talent. Look for food trucks, handcrafted items and fresh, organic produce. There will be gyros and falafels from Sultan's Delight, waffle sandwiches from Ooblies, Vietnamese food from Nguyen and cookies or ice cream sandwiches from Freshly Baked. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to picnic on the lawn. On Friday, July 10, Shelley Kristen will present contemporary inspirational music.
Annual Children's Festival
The theme of the 49th annual Children's Festival is "Heroes Unite," and Jackson County Library Services' Story Tree will explore fantasy heroes in books as well as introduce real-life local heroes to kids. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 11-13, the Story Tree will offer time for local heroes to interact with kids and families — sharing insights about their jobs and assisting with activities or crafts. Kids will have the opportunity to meet the real heroes in their world who teach, defend and protect them every day. Saturday will feature local police officers, public defenders and judges from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.; Sunday will feature doctors, nurses, firefighters and paramedics from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.; and Monday will host journalists, teachers and librarians from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Many imaginative activities — along with the litter-eating dragons Rosabelle and Pebbles — will be available at this “just for kids” event. Admission costs $3 per person.

Singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist Jeff Kloetzel, drummer David Bolen, bassist Donnie Yance and guitarist Jeff Stanley will play original songs from Kloetzel's CD "Long Time Coming," along with a mix of funky rhythms over acoustic guitar, at 6 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Del Rio Vineyards, 52 N.
