Klamath Falls holds off Medford for 4-3 triumph
KLAMATH FALLS — Klamath Falls opened a 4-0 lead through six innings and held on to defeat Medford 4-3 Thursday to avoid being swept in the three-game West Coast League baseball series.
The Rogues scored twice in the seventh and once in the eighth before the Gems’ Jake Repavich blanked them in the final frame.
Medford is 17-22 and Klamath Falls is 8-31.
The Rogues mounted their rally in the seventh inning against Klamath Falls starter Garrett Alvarez, who had allowed only three hits through six innings.
Billy Fredrick opened the inning with a single but was forced out at second on a Nathan Etheridge grounder. Daniel Patzlaff singled, but an error in center field allowed Etheridge to score from first and left Patzlaff at second. After a strikeout, reserved catcher Tim Lichty singled in Patzlaff.
A J.J. Kitaoka double moved Lichty to third, but the runners were stranded in scoring position when Derron Davis grounded out to second.
In the eighth, Brock Pradere and Dan Mayer had back-to-back singles to open the frame, and Pradere scored the lone run on a fielder’s choice.
The Rogues went down in order in the ninth.
Pradere had Medford’s lone multiple-hit game, going 2-for-4.
Starter Max Bethell (2-2) took the loss for the Rogues, going three innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out three and walked one.
Medford returns home today for a 6:35 p.m. game against Bellingham to open a three-game series at Harry & David Field.
Included in the series will be Paint the Park Pink night for Saturday’s 6:35 p.m. contest. The Rogues are teaming up with Providence Health & Services to support the fight against breast cancer.
The Rogues will wear special-edition pink jerseys and use pink Harmony Bats to be auctioned off to raise additional funds. Fans can bid on players’ game jerseys and will receive them from the players after the contest.
