Rogues rout Bellingham to kick-start series

Daniel Patzlaff drove in three runs, Brock Pradere had three hits and Medford used two big innings to rout Bellingham, 11-4, in West Coast League baseball Friday at Harry & David Field.

The game was the first of a three-game series. Tonight’s second contest is at 6:35. It will be “Paint the Park Pink” night in support of the fight against breast cancer.

Medford improved to 18-22 in defeating the West Division-leading Bells, who are 26-14.

The Rogues led 2-1 before erupting for four runs in the fifth inning. They added five in the eighth.

In the fifth, Medford combined four hits with a costly error on a sacrifice bunt by Patzlaff that scored two runs.

Dan Mayer, who had two hits to raise his average to .315, had a run-scoring double in the frame.

In the eighth, the Rogues bunched together six hits. Included was a two-run single by Patzlaff.

Medford’s Derron Davis was 2-for-5 and scored three runs, John Kinne was 2-for-3 and Patzlaff and Pradere each scored twice.

Kohl Hostert pitched the first five innings for the Rogues to earn the win. He scattered seven hits and allowed one run, which was earned, in improving to 2-2. He walked three and struck out two before four relievers finished up.

American Legion A

NORTH MEDFORD 12-13, NORTH COOS 9-3: At North Bend, North Medford rode big innings in each game to run its winning streak to 16 games in the nonleague doubleheader.

The Mavericks scored seven fifth-inning runs in a opening victory. In the nightcap, they tallied eight runs in the fourth inning of the five-inning game and ran their record to 38-7-1.

In the first game, Honus Kindreich had a home run and double, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Barry Hunt, who had two RBIs and two runs, and Dakota Adams, who had an RBI and a run, each were 2-for-4.

In Game 2, Larson Kindreich homered, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Hunt, Casey Buchanan, Tyler Oedekoven and Zack Collins each had two hits, and Buchanan drove in two runs while Oedekoven and Collins each scored twice.

North Medford’s Dallas Casebier pitched the distance, allowing six hits, striking out five and walking two.
