Three dead in Highway 199 crash near Cave Junction
Oregon State Police say three people died in a two-vehicle crash just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Highway 199 near Cave Junction.
"What I was told was a Ford F-150 was on top of a sedan," said OSP spokesman Lt. Bill Fugate.
Fugate said two people died at the scene. He said three people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and by 7 p.m., one of those patients had died.
Fugate said traffic was initially blocked in both directions at milepost 27.3 between Cave Junction and Kerby. A single lane later reopened around 7:45 p.m. The crash was first reported at 5:38 p.m., state police records show.
"It really sounds like a bad crash," Fugate said. Further details of the crash and the identities of the victims were not available at press time.
