Umpqua Hot Springs shut down by E. coli
SALEM — A popular hot springs in southern Oregon has been shut down after tests revealed high levels of the bacterium E. coli.
The Statesman Journal reports (http://is.gd/78xUhy) that federal officials say Umpqua Hot Springs near Roseburg is closed to swimming, soaking and wading until further notice.
Umpqua National Forest officials plan to test the water at a later date. They will notify the public once testing is complete and it's safe to enter the hot springs.
A representative of the forest says officials are working to improve the quality and management of the water at Umpqua Hot Springs.
