Novel Writing Talk: Carole Draime, author of "The Bridge," will discuss how to write a young adult novel from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. Learn tips for organizing ideas, drawing on what is familiar and researching topics for a piece of writing. A teacher, Draime will also read from her young adult novel, which combines the legends of Bigfoot and a lost Lumerian civilization at Mount Shasta with the issues facing today's teens. Dirty Dozen Brass Band: Ring in the new year with New Orleans-style jams performed by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The Louisiana-based ensemble revolutionized New Orleans brass band music by adding funk, bebop and soul to the style. There will be a New Year's Eve countdown with a champagne toast, and a late-night dance party with DJ Dragonfly. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The show is open to ages 21 and older.
