Sams Valley man found dead in Lost Creek Lake
A 69-year-old Sams Valley man was found dead today and presumed drowned in Lost Creek Lake after he failed to return from a fishing trip there.
The body of Charles Steven Schnell was found about 2 p.m. in the northern portion of the reservoir off Highway 62 in northern Jackson County, about three hours after he was reported missing, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
Schnell reportedly had been at the lake since Monday, but it was not clear from a press release whether he was there on a day trip or overnight.
Earlier today, Schnell's wife asked staff members at the Lost Creek Marina to report him missing after they were unable to locate Schnell or his boat, which was described as a blue and silver 2015 Raider Pro Sport, according to sheriff's deputies.
The boat, with the registration number OR 486AFA, had not been located as of late this afternoon.
Further details were not immediately available.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause and manner of death.
Anyone who has seen the boat was asked to call sheriff's deputies at 541-774-6800, and reference case No. 16-4166.
