Bird Language: Interpreting bird language is an ancient skill people have used for thousands of years. Lithia Park Nature Walks: Walk with naturalists through Lithia Park and learn about plants, trees, animals, water, geology and history at 10 a.m. Fridays, Sundays and Wednesdays through Sept. 30. Peacemaking Presentation: David Zarembka of the Quaker group Friends Peace Teams will describe how his organization's Alternatives to Violence program brings reconciliation among people who have done dreadful harm to each other in nations like Rwanda, Burundi, and Congo at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Peace House, 543 S. Ashland International Folk Dancers: The group meets every Friday at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, for dances from Eastern and Western Europe, Greece, Scandinavia, Israel, Turkey and the Middle East. Kayak and Paddleboard Demonstration: Northwest Outdoor Store representatives will hold a kayak and stand-up paddleboard demonstration to allow people to test out many models from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29, near the Greensprings Spur boat ramp, 375 Old Greensprings Highway, Ashland, at Emigrant Lake. Jefferson State Choral Coalition: The choir, directed by Kirby Shaw, will present a program of music celebrating America's gospel music at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 405 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Look for guest singer Darlene Reynolds-Cooper, a former student of Shaw's. Also, the choir will be accompanied by rhythm and horn sections. Library Closure: All branches of Jackson County Library Services will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

The class will discuss annual rotation of crops, companion planting, creative and cheap DIY vertical gardening and containers.
