Celebrate regional craft-brew industries

Medford Beer Week 2016 is a city-wide celebration of regional craft beers. Look for suds-related events happening June 2 through 11. Here are just a few of the events. Find a full schedule at www.medfordbeerweek.com.

Kick off Medford Beer Week from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2, with beers from Arch Rock Brewing in Gold Beach at Immortal Spirits & Distilling Co., 141 S. Central Ave., then join a party from 5 to 10 p.m. at Beerworks, 323 E. Main St. Representatives from Ninkasi Brewing will be at Beerworks, and Medford's newest attraction, Pint Rider, will be out front. Pint Rider is a new bike that seats up to 15 persons and can take riders to beer tastings.

On Friday, June 3, experience jackfruit IPA made by Opposition Brewing in collaboration with Wild Ride Brewing Company in Redmond. Called All Jacked Up, the brew has a heavy citrus influence. Opposition, 545 Rossanley Drive, takes the party outdoors from 4 to 9 p.m. A DJ will spin rocking tunes, and food truck Peruvian Point will be at the site.

A golf tournament, the Caldera Brewery Scramble, will start at 5 p.m. at Centennial Golf Club, 1900 N. Phoenix Road. Caldera will offer beer tastings and contests throughout the tournament, and there will be awards and keg beer for the players.

Tap into the best of the Rogue Valley's food, beverages and music at the fourth annual Brews, Bluegrass & BBQ from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at RoxyAnn Winery, 3283 Hillcrest Road. There will be barbecue from Sweet Tea Express, ABC Kitchen Catering, Figgy’s Food Truck and Nguyen Street Food, along with 26 Rogue Valley microbrews on tap, RoxyAnn's wines, and a live music lineup that features bluegrass bands Left Coast Country, Windy Hill, Siskiyou Summit, Sage Meadows & High Country and Bear Creek Band.

Tickets to Brews, Bluegrass & BBQ are $15 in advance and can be purchased online at roguebbb.org. Tickets will be $20 at the door. Tickets include a commemorative pint glass and tasting tickets. Music-only tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Children 15 and younger get in free. Proceeds benefit THRIVE's local food programs.

The fifth annual kickball tournament with Deschutes Brewery will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Schoolhaus Brewhaus, 525 Bigham Knoll Drive, Jacksonville. Deschutes brews will flow all day, and teams will compete in double elimination brackets for the coveted Deschutes Kickball Trophy. It's $50 per team to play, and open to ages 21 and older. Centennial Golf Club will host its Monday Night BBQ Kick-off Party with Hop Valley Brewing from 5 to 9 p.m. June 6. Along with barbecue, there will be beer pairings and tastings from Hop Valley and live music by Jon Galfano.

Join Paint and Pints with Pelican Brewery from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave. Drink a pint (or two) and create a masterpiece. The event is hosted by Jerilyn Pool, known on Twitter as AuntMarvel. Painting not your thing? Join Pelican Brewery in the theater lobby for samples, prizes and an exclusive beer release.

A four-course dinner and beer-tasting will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Downtown Market Company, 231 E. Main St. Chef Braden Hitt will prepare food designed to pair with brews from Opposition. Space is limited to 20 seats, and the cost is $65 per person. Reservations are available by emailing downtownmarketco@charter.net.

Comedian and actor Janeane Garofalo will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Music trio The Fret Drifters will open the show. Tickets are $32, $35 or $38 and include a commemorative pint glass for those 21 and older. Beer tastings will be available before the show and during intermission in the lobby. A limited number of VIP tickets are $125 and include appetizers in the lobby at 5 p.m. and dinner with Jamie Floyd of Ninkasi Brewing in the theater's upstairs banquet room at 5:30. Tickets can be purchased online at craterian.org, at the box office, 16 S. Bartlett St., or by calling 541-779-3000.

Play "Star Wars"-themed laser tag from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Schoolhaus Brewhaus in Jacksonville. Choose your side, dress the part and come out in teams of four. There will be Hop Valley Brewing IPA and lager on tap, live music by the Odas Williams Soul Revue and a "Star Wars" screening in the Death Star Bar. It's $5 to play — $2.50 with five items of nonperishable food. Proceeds benefit ACCESS.

Beer Week culminates with the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11, on Bartlett Street and Middleford Alley. With more than 25 breweries offering 50 beers to sample, a $16 ticket includes a commemorative pint glass and five tasting tickets. Additional tickets are five for $5 or 12 for $10. There will be food by Fired Up, Downtown Market Company, Peruvian Point and Wok Star. Advance tickets are $14 and can be purchased at Beerworks.
