Trosin nominated for NAIA's top honor

Southern Oregon University senior quarterback Tanner Trosin on Thursday was nominated for the NAIA Football National Player of the Year award, an honor which will be handed out during an awards banquet Dec. 15 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Trosin, one of 11 nominees, ranked No. 1 in the nation in total offense (4,946 yards) and No. 2 in passing yards (4,516) while guiding the Raiders to the national semifinals. It was Southern Oregon's second deep playoff run with Trosin taking snaps, as the Trosin-led Raiders advanced to the 2015 national championship game.

Trosin, who was granted a medical redshirt after missing most of last season with a broken foot, completed 63 percent of his passes for 347 yards per game and 31 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also was the Raiders' second-leading rusher (430 yards, seven touchdowns).

Southern, ranked fifth, Oregon lost to second-ranked Reinhardt in the national semifinals Saturday.
