A woman found dead June 30 in a burning trailer at her estranged husband’s residence in Sams Valley was strangled before the fire, an autopsy has concluded.

Tammy Raye Hicks, 47, had been killed just before the trailer fire started in the 3100 block of McMartin Lane, according to results of an autopsy performed by Deputy State Medical Examiner Dr. James Olson, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.

Kevin Dean Hicks, 52, remains lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail on charges of murder, first-degree arson and second-degree abuse of a corpse.

Police allege he killed Tammy Hicks, moved her body and intentionally set the fire.

A memorial service for Hicks is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Baptist Temple, 2001 S. Columbus Ave., Medford.

A groundswell of community support has followed for Hicks’ four juvenile children, identified in earlier news reports as Dean, 16; Elizabeth, 14; Megan, 13, and Jacob, 10.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign has raised $28,741 from 305 donations for the children (see the gofundme page at www.gofundme.com/tragic-events-orphan-four-children).

Logos Public Charter School will host a fundraiser estate and garage sale Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3 and 4, at 400 Earhart St., Medford.

Two of Hicks’ children attended Logos, and the school described Hicks as a “constant presence there.” All proceeds from the sale will go to the family. The sale will include items not sold earlier this month at a family-arranged estate sale, along with donated items and baked goods.

Hicks’ cousin Cody Nelson, who organized the GoFundMe campaign for Hicks’ children, has also arranged a “Hicks Kids Update” public Facebook group focused on upbeat support for the four children, their recovery and achievements.
