Police search for second vehicle after pedestrian struck

Police are asking for help locating the driver of a vehicle who struck a pedestrian and left the scene Saturday night on Highway 62 in White City.

Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian just before midnight Saturday on Highway 62 near Milepost 5.

Investigation revealed that Jason Ziegler, 39, of Medford, was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee westbound when he struck a pedestrian, Ignacio Hernandez, 39, of Eugene, who was in the roadway at the time of the collision.

Ziegler stopped at the scene and called 911 to report the incident. But witnesses said that a second vehicle struck Hernandez after the initial accident, but that driver did not stop at the scene.

Hernandez sustained critical injuries and is being treated at Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford.

Two westbound lanes were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Anyone with any information on the second vehicle is asked to call the OSP Southern Command Center at 541-776-6111 and reference case number SP18-290557.
