R.V. Symphonic Band conjures up Harry Potter
Harry Potter fans and music lovers can join forces in the audience for the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band’s Halloween-themed concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in Southern Oregon University’s Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland.
The first concert of the band’s 30th season is titled the “Deathly Hallows” and will have a few Harry Potter themed surprises. Admission will be free for costumed attendees and there will be additional activities for kids.
The concert program includes: “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg, “Scheherezade” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, “Ride of the Valkyries” by Richard Wagner, the “Harry Potter Symphonic Suite” by John Williams, and “Alex and the Phantom Band” by David Maslanka. The guest master of ceremonies will be Jordan Barbour, who starred in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Wiz” and “Oklahoma.”
Paddington Station and Treehouse Books in Ashland are partnering with RVSB to host a “Harry Potter Extravaganza,” which will include games, prizes and a costume contest for kids. Kids activities begin at 6 p.m. and the costume contest will take place during intermission.
