One furniture store’s exit opens the door for another

My husband and I saw your story on Ashley Furniture moving into the Old Costco building on Crater Lake Highway. We were wondering who might be going into the old Ashley Furniture site. We don’t get out that much any more, but we’re still curious.

— Hazel J., Medford

Just as it took two stores to fill the old Costco location, it took two tenants to fill the former Ashley Furniture Homestore digs in what is now branded “The Village” at Medford Center.

Home of the Future, which ended a run of several years at Bear Creek Plaza shopping center last year, planned to relocate to the former Medford Skate University building on Highway 99. But that project encountered some unexpected obstacles, and its owners had to start a new search.

With Ashley Furniture Homestore vacating the Medford Center, Home of the Future — which now bills itself as Home of the Future Furniture and More — has set up shop a little north of Tinseltown.

Leslie Lundin, a managing partner for LBG Real Estate Companies, which owns the 420,000-square-foot regional entertainment and lifestyle center, said the Oregon Liquor Control Commission is taking up about a third of the old Ashley space.

The OLCC office, which was previously located on Crater Lake Avenue, is the second state agency to take up tenancy at the Medford Center. Oregon Department of Vehicles moved in next to Safeway two years ago.
