Homicide victims shot multiple times
Two women killed in a double homicide on Easter were shot multiple times.
Shirley Kay Gann, 62, and her daughter Judy Mae Wilkins, 43, died of “multiple gunshot wounds” Sunday morning, according to findings of the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office released Wednesday afternoon by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s department wouldn’t say where or how many times the women were shot.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Julie Denney said investigators have not yet released specific information related to the killings, which were reported just after 10 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Sarma Drive.
Kit Warren Wilkins, 59, who was Shirley Gann’s long-term boyfriend, faces aggravated murder and murder charges in the women’s deaths. The aggravated murder charges allege that Wilkins killed both women “in the course of the same criminal episode,” according to an indictment filed Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Wilkins made his first court appearance Monday afternoon, where he was ordered held without bail.
His next court appearance is set for April 29.
As of Wednesday, a GoFundMe crowdfunding page for Judy Wilkins’ 14 year-old and twin 8-year-old daughters had raised $490 toward a $5,000 goal.
