Free help to prepare seniors for disaster

Ashland seniors can learn about resources available to them for disaster preparedness at a free presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Ashland Senior Center, 1699 Homes Ave.

Ashland Community Preparedness Coordinator Terri Eubanks will present how to prepare for a disaster and what to do if disaster strikes.

Rogue Valley Council of Governments Senior Services Planner Connie Saldaña will join Eubanks for the presentation.

Saldaña will help participants sign up for the Rogue Valley Council of Governments Disaster Registry. The registry is sent to all local emergency responders so they are aware of people nearby who need special assistance in the case of a disaster or evacuation.

Ashland Senior Services Division staff will help participants sign up for Nixle alerts, the city’s emergency and nonemergency notification system, and the Jackson County Citizen Alert program.

Participants will be entered into a drawing for a “Go Stay Kit,” a tool to help keep valuable and important personal and medical information together in one place.

Registration is required by emailing seniorinfo@ashland.or.us or by calling the senior center at 541-488-5342.
