Last I read, Tucker Reed was supposed to have a murder trial on May 13, but I haven’t seen anything in your paper. Did it get postponed?

Aisling Tucker Moore Reed, 29, who has written books and reported for the Grants Pass Daily Courier under the name Tucker Reed, has not yet been tried in the shooting death of her maternal uncle, Shane Patrick Moore.

A two-week trial is scheduled to start Dec. 3 in Jackson County Circuit Court, where Reed will face felony charges of murder and first- and second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death allegedly captured on video, according to earlier news reports.

The soonest court hearing in the case is set for July. The family seeks to record a deposition for Reed’s 91-year-old grandmother, Lore Moore, who is considered a key witness in the July 26, 2016, shooting.

The report filed by Reed’s defense lawyer May 28 says Lore Moore told Jackson County sheriff’s detectives after the shooting that Shane Moore was addicted to drugs, and had threatened Reed and Reed’s mother “many times” if Lore Moore didn’t sign paperwork deeding her Ruch property to him.

“Her age and multiple physical health issues create a substantial risk that she will not appear at the time when her attendance as a witness is required,” her lawyer, Lawrence Taylor wrote.

Reed, the daughter of two New York Times bestselling authors and a former Ashland High School and University of Southern California graduate, had a starkly different reputation from Shane Moore, who had prior drug convictions.

Prosecutors added the murder charge years after the shooting, when a cellphone recording of the shooting that had been hidden from investigators surfaced in early 2018, according to earlier news reports.
