2-year-old found dead in Montana had been shot
A Medford child had been shot prior to a police chase in rural Montana that ended with his parents dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
Authorities in Lincoln County, Montana, have confirmed that the child’s body, found over the weekend in a remote area of northwest Montana, was that of 2-year-old Aiden Salcido.
A news release, issued Thursday by Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short, said the baby was found in the West Fisher Creek area and had died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The child was found near where his parents, 21-year-old Daniel Amedo Salcido and 24-year-old Hannah Rachel Janiak, had been camping. Daniel Salcido and Janiak both had Jackson County burglary warrants when they died the evening of July 24.
Daniel Salcido had fled from police after a traffic stop in the area of Kalispell, Montana, according to earlier news reports. The vehicle crashed into a ditch after being disabled by spike strips, and investigators believe Daniel Salcido killed Janiak before turning the gun on himself.
At the scene of the crashed 1996 GMC Jimmy SUV and apparent murder-suicide, police found no sign of the child in the vehicle, according to earlier news reports.
