When will the pot odor stop?
How much longer will the harvesting season for hemp and marijuana last, so we don’t get the skunk odor from those fields?
— Dee W., Medford
Theoretically, Dee, any season is now cannabis season in Southern Oregon, particularly if you live next to a greenhouse.
Kidding aside, the hemp and marijuana outdoor growing season is in full swing, and you can expect to smell that skunky odor for about six more weeks or so. We’re entering peak odor season for cannabis, which I’m sure you’ve figured out already, Dee.
By the way, that skunk odor is prized by cannabis aficionados. Some people think it smells like a pine forest, so smell is in the nose of the beholder.
Near downtown Medford there is an area near 10th Street and Central Avenue that is particularly potent at certain times of the year.
It’s not caused by an outdoor grow, but by cannabis being cultivated inside an old warehouse.
So, keep your windows and doors closed, Dee. When we start celebrating Halloween, most of the cannabis will have been harvested.
Trick or treat.
