Gold Hill man suspected of sexually abusing teen

A man suspected of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl is in jail, and Jackson County Sheriff's Office detectives are concerned he may have been in communication with other teens in the Medford and Grants Pass areas.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Erik Theil Rowe, 38, Tuesday after serving a search warrant at his home, in the 3200 block of Galls Creek Road.

The investigation into Rowe began Jan. 12, when the teen reported she has been sexually assaulted by an older man she had met online, according to a news release. The two reportedly used a mobile app called Whisper to communicate and later met in person.

Rowe remains in the Jackson County Jail on one count of third-degree sexual abuse, according to jail records. His bail is set at $10,000.

Detectives suspect Rowe may have contacted other teens using the Whisper app. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff's department tip line at 541-770-8333 and refer to case number 19-827.
