'Star Wars' designer to speak in Medford

Colin Cantwell, who designed several of the ships in the “Star Wars” universe, including the ominous sphere of the Death Star and the sleek X-Wing fighter Luke Skywalker piloted in “A New Hope,” will be at Medford’s Astral Games, 125 S. Central Ave., No. 10, from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1.

Fans can meet Cantwell and ask questions at the free event. Autographs will be available for purchase.

Cantwell was also behind the designs and models for the Imperial Star Destroyer, Imperial TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon, according to his website, colincantwell.com. The event will include videos detailing Cantwell’s work on “Star Wars” and other films, including “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “War Games.”
