Medford Fire-Rescue has not determined a cause for the fire at 424 Plum St.
Fire officials have listed the cause of the blaze as “undetermined,” pending new information. Whether new information will come to light may be up to the insurance company that covered the house, said Deputy Fire Marshal Tanner Fairrington.
“They might decide to examine some more stuff that would give us more information,” he said. “It’s kind of the insurance company’s choice.”
Six fire engines from Medford Fire-Rescue and Jackson County Fire District No. 3 responded to the fire just before 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. Medford Fire-Rescue arrived four minutes after the initial call, according to Battalion Chief Erin Sawall.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke pouring off the front and back side of the structure. It was determined the blaze started in a northwest corner room and then spread to the attic. The woman who lives there made it out OK with her small dog.
