Central Point soldier killed in Afghanistan
A Central Point soldier has died in Afghanistan in what's being described as a "non-combat related incident."
ArmySpc. Branden Tyme Kimball, 21, of Central Point, died Wednesday at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, according to a release issued Thursday by the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Department of Defense describes the fatality as stemming from a "non-combat related incident," but does not say anything further about the circumstances leading to Kimball's death because his death is still under investigation.
Kimball had been assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade based out of Fort Drum, New York, according to the release.
A Military.com news report said Kimball served as an aircraft structural repairer in the battalion.
Lt. Col. Kamil Sztalkoper, Chief of Public Affairs for the 10th Mountain Division, provided the following statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Spc. Branden Kimball during this very difficult time. The loss of any Mountain Soldier has a lasting impact on every member of the team. The 10th Mountain Division mourns the loss of SPC Kimball, he will be missed from our formations."
