Craterian events canceled or postponed the next four weeks because of COVID-19

The Craterian Theater at the Collier Center for the Performing Arts will either postpone or cancel its scheduled performances for the next four weeks as a precautionary measure due to mounting concerns surrounding the coronavirus, or COVID-19.

The announcement, issued Thursday, followed a recent statewide mandate curtailing public gatherings of more than 250 people.

"While some Craterian events number below that figure, in order to be responsible and conform to the best and prevailing wisdom of our public and healthcare officials, the Craterian is postponing when possible, or otherwise canceling, events that are scheduled at our facilities over the next four weeks," a news release says.

The affected shows include four performances of the Teen Musical Theater of Oregon's "Children of Eden," The Modern Gentlemen — Four Part Harmony Without Limits, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band.

The "Children of Eden" performances, originally set to run on March 14, 15, 20 and 21, have been postponed. Two performances have been tentatively rescheduled for April 10 and 11, Craterian executive director Stephen McCandless said. Other dates may be added, he said.

Theater officials are "actively in conversation" with The Modern Gentleman to see if it can reschedule its show, originally slated for March 27, for later in the spring.

"We're trying to sort out our calendar to see if there's a date that lines up with their tour schedule, so that's dynamic at the moment," McCandless said.

The Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band, scheduled for April 4, is canceled, but it could be rescheduled for the following season.

Box office officials will be contacting ticket holders to offer refunds or ticket transfers.

"Box office will be very busy the next couple of days," McCandless said.

The affected shows are the latest in a slew of local events being canceled or rescheduled, following Gov. Kate Brown's mandate that all gatherings through April 8 with more than 250 people be canceled. All high school winter sport championship tournaments have been canceled, the Ashland Rotary of Lithia Springs crab feed fundraiser, and the Oregon Cheese Festival has been postponed. The Southern Oregon Women's March has been postponed until October, and the ACCESS Senior Fair has been postponed until the end of April.

"We'll be doing projects around the facility and keeping up with other affairs during this period," McCandless said. "Our expectation is that we'll get through this period and everything will settle down and we'll be able to raise the curtain and get back to business."
